  • Volkswagen launch the Lifestyle vehicles ‘Escape’ campaign

Volkswagen campers, vans and Kombis have fast become style icons over the past 60 years – being used to escape the drain of everyday life to having fun doing what we want in our leisure time. To help celebrate this heritage, Volkswagen has launched the Lifestyle ‘escape’ campaign.

The new website, vwescape.co.uk has been set up to showcase the modern equivalents of these vehicles – the Caravelle people carrier, Transporter kombi and California campervan. The website has been set to encourage people to share their own personal ‘escapes’, as well as play host to a competition which people can enter to win their own Volkswagen escape in a California, plus much more.

To set a great example, Volkswagen has appointed some sporting brand ambassadors who will be uploading images of themselves in action with their vehicles. These include windsurfer and Olympic medallist Bryony Shaw, professional wakeboarder Matt Crowhurst, and Radio One DJ Jo Whiley.

To bring all this to life, two boldly decorated ‘Escape’ vehicles will be touring the country attending various summer events detailed on the website to show the versatility of the seven-seater Caravelle and California campervan, while at the same time meeting people, seeing how they are having fun, and uploading a host of photos and videos taken along the way.

  • AdBlues Required for Euro 5 Crafter Owners

Along with the new compliances of the Euro 5 exhaust emissions regulations comes the requirements of regular top ups to Volkswagen Crafters with a new substance called AdBlue. This is a water based additive with a 32.5 per cent urea content

AdBlue is needed because Euro 5 Crafters are fitted with something called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). It converts any NOx – oxides of nitrogen – in the exhaust system into nitrogen and water without producing undesirable by-products and the AdBlue helps it to do so.

Refills of the tank of Crafters will be done free of charge during the first three years of ownership by Volkswagen dealers and authorised repairers. It will need replenishing every 10,000-14,000miles and when owners eventually have to pay for it themselves, going on today’s prices it will cost in the region of 77p a litre.

For more information on this please contact us on 0845 128 8601, where one of our sales advisors will be able to talk you through the regulations.

  • Introducing the Amarok – The New Volkswagen pickup

Showcased last year as a concept, the new pickup now has a name – Amarok, which is due to be launched in Europe in 2010.

The new name means ‘wolf’ in the language of the Inuit, one of the Eskimo people who live in northern Canada and Greenland who highly regard the wolf as king of the wilderness and a figure of robustness, endurance and superiority. It translates into ‘he loves stones’ in the languages spoken in South America

The new name was selected to fit the characteristics of the new pickup, and is meant to invoke positive associations in all relevant international markets

The Amarok which has been developed from scratch will be launched as a double cab pickup with four-wheel drive, with a single cab version being introduced at a later date. It includes Volkswagen’s powerful yet efficient, next generation common rail turbo diesel engines which will achieve class leading fuel consumption and emissions.

  • Green Credentials for the latest ‘Blue’ Crafter Van Models

The latest Volkswagen ‘Blue’ Crafter panel van, chassis and double cab ranges are set to become among the cleanest and most refined vehicles in their class. There have been substantial changes to the drivetrain to make it both quieter and smoother thanks to great torque. Conversely, fuel economy rises and emissions fall to not only meet but exceed the latest Euro V standards.

As a result of this the new Crafter Euro V BlueTDI range has achieved certification as an EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) – meaning it meets the most exacting European exhaust standard for commercial vehicles. Moreover, in the UK, any crafter Euro V models registered before the end of 2010 qualify for lower road tax (RFL) for the lifetime of the vehicle – saving £60 per annum!

These achievements are a result of a combination of improvements, including new manual gearboxes, a modified DPF (Diesel Particular Filter), enhanced BlueTDI common rail, direct injection diesel engines and refinements used on Volkswagen’s latest BlueMotion models.
